Who Invented the Passenger Elevator?
“With the development of skyscrapers or multistory buildings in New York City, it was a necessity that someone arranged some way to get up higher into the building without having to climb stairway after stairway, and so OTIS developed the hydraulic elevator that went up from floor to floor, and it was a very worthwhile invention at the time, because it allowed people to go from one floor to another without climbing several steps or several flights of stairs to get up to higher floors. The hydraulics involved in the elevator was a very… was something that gave us ideas about a lot of other things as well, and the person who got the elevator going also developed a way of getting up steps in residential homes as well, and now that’s been a good design because sometimes we need to be able to get up stairs without having to actually climb them.
