Who is Immanuel Kant?
Immanuel Kant is one of the foremost deontolical thinkers. He has many philosophies which are both a)interesting to read, and b)very useful in a debate context. One of the most often cited works of his is, perhaps, the Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals. An essay can be found here. His theory of morality, for the individual, that is, is the Categorical Imperative. It has four main prongs, the first two and the latter two of which are closely related. The most basic observation of his philosophy can be summarized as thus: Act in such a way that you can will at the same time, your maxim(action) to become a universal law, and treat mankind, even in yourself, as an end in itself, and never simply as a means. The latter means treating humankind with respect, while the former can be thought of being similiar to: Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you(though not exactly). For a more defined explanation, I highly recommend my essay. For an essay on some of Kant’s other works, g
