Who is more specialized and tougher….a marine sniper or a navy seal?
I believe the sniper is more specialized, although they do take survival training which allows them to seek out an enemy who’s where abouts is not known. Navy SEALS are far better trained for many types of missions. Generally they work in larger groups than snipers, and are capable of taking on larger missions. They are capable of attacking ships at sea, infiltrating enemy positions from the sea, or swooping in by helicopter, parachute, or even land/sea craft. Snipers are often assigned to rifle companies to perform missions compatible with the mission of the company. It isn’t reasonable to compare the two. Snipers very often work alone or with a spotter, SEALS work in teams, and their missions are generally not the same.
Know how many people tell me in a month they were Navy Seals and/or completed BUDS, I lose count. Seal Teams are limited in personnel and overall a very small “community” within the Navy. Everyone cannot be a “Seal” and I would have to see your friends DD214 and “service record” to believe, NOT word of mouth. Navy Seals are extremely professional and I continue to personally know two, prior enlisted and a LCDR. These gentlemen are the “real deal” and as an Administrative Officer I had access to all “Service Records”, and verified. I never heard either say a “negative” response to a question such as yours. Instead, a brief summary of missions each are trained. “Navy Seals” are extremely proud of their accomplishments and just ask your friend politely, may I see your “discharge” papers and “service record” pages received, because you would love to see a military service record with his wonderful career. If he says no, or any other excuse, BS! Snipers MUST be undetected often moving alone
