Who is responsible for paying child support?
Since the mother was married at the time of the child’s birth, most states will automatically assume the husband is the child’s father. Whether this assumption can be overturned or not depends on state law. After the DNA test, if you are indeed the father, you could be sued for child support but my guess is that you will not be liable for it until a judicial order for it is put in place. All of this is very hypothetical since I don’t know where you are located at and what your local laws are. If this is a true concern of yours, speak with a local family law attorney, who should be well aware of the local laws and customs regarding child support. After having a brief relationship with a woman she tells me that she is pregnant. Then she starts hiding from me. She told me she didnâ t want anything to do with me. She ends up abandoning the child with her mother. Several years I find her family and I tell them that I believe the child to be mine. Only to find out that the child is registered under my ex-girlfriends husbandsâ last name. This woman tends to lie frequently; so Iâ m not sure that the child is really mine. She had told her family that the child was her husbandâ s. I still have to get a DNA test, but I was just curious about who is responsible for paying child support. I donâ t want to get behind if I am responsible. I have tried to set up a DNA test, but the country in which the child resides there is a lot of red tape. It cost about $5,000 to get a DNA test done.
