Who is Sams mother played by in the scene at Mrs. Terrains funeral?
It’s Kim Greist, who plays Jill Layton. Gilliam shot footage with both Greist and Katherine Helmond playing the part, and decided to use the footage of Greist with Helmond’s voice dubbed in. This creates an effect alluded to in the original screenplay, in which Gilliam called Sam’s mother’s transformation “a parody of Sam’s dream girl.” However, if you’re paying attention, the last shot of Sam’s mother is Katherine Helmond.
