THE TOUR Championship began in 1987 and was the final event in the season for the PGA Tour, until last year, of course, when it became the final playoff tournament for the FedEx Cup. Beginning with the tournament’s very first winner, Tom Watson, who shot a 12-under-par 268, through last year when Tiger Woods shot his amazing 23-under-par 257 to set the lowest winning score in the history of the tournament, every champion has always won with a final score that was at least 6-under-par, except for one, and that way Billy Mayfair, who shot an even par 280 to win in 1995.
