Who knows why Titchiba is the only black character in the Crucible?

She probably isn’t the only black person in the village, as others in the village would definitely have slaves. It was still a very racist time though so in that time, none of the black slaves would have had a say in the village meetings or anything like that, therefore aren’t written about in the play. It’s not that she is the only black character, it’s that she is the only black character that has a voice – has a story. None of the other black slaves would have taken the girls into the wood, and so they wouldn’t have been accused of witchcraft and wouldn’t have been relevant to the story. Titchiba set herself up for being accused of witchcraft. The character of Titchiba is partly there to show the racism and discrimination of the time, but not mainly. She is really there to show how much Abigail manipulates people and passes the blame on to others. Hope this helped!
