Who owns the intellectual property rights to an innovation made by a UW researcher?
As a condition of employment at the University of Washington, all employees agree to assign inventions made in the normal course of their work to the University. Inventors execute an Invention Assignment to the University upon disclosing their innovation to the UW Center for Commercialization. When an invention is commercialized, the UW then arranges for royalty distributions to the inventor(s).
