During the root canal treatment, the blood vessels inside the pupal tissue are severed and the blood pigmentation will deposit into the tooth structure and the tooth will slowly turn grey or dark. A root canaled tooth is virtually a dead tooth, without any nerve or nutrition. It is brittle and easy to fracture.
