…when I was thin (well, maybe not “thin” but thinner than today) I loved my boot-cut zipper-fly blue jeans because as I wore them the fibers stretched so I had a custom fit. Eventually, even when washed and put in the dryer they kept my shape so it was like hanging around with an old friend. My jeans were comfortable from the get go. And then, as they aged, the denim became softer and even more comfortable, and all the colors of blue are attractive, from brand new stiff and scratchy dark blue to so pale as to be almost white. This is, I suspect, a major reason that jeans are so popular. Somehow jeans of other colors just don’t do the same thing. When they fade, they just look old. When they age, they just look like you need new pants. When they stretch, they just look baggy in all the wrong spots. In addition, because of the way blue jeans fade, a little dirt doesn’t really show up on them. That means you can wear them to all sorts of events without worrying about their state of clea
