Why are French People so Rude?

0

There are many reasons we PERCEIVE the French as being rude. Many are due to cultural differences, many are not. • The French are very protective of their language and culture. They perceive America and Americans as being insensitive to this. If you are in France and speak English, you will be looked down upon as an invader spreading a language and culture that is Not French. I’ve found that if you learn to say, “Pardon my terrible French, but do you know…” at this point you will be interupted and most French will become quite pleasant and helpful. They will speak to you in English or find someone who can. • A great deal is placed upon expertise in the French Culture. Many American’s want things “Their way” and that is not the French way. They have experience with American’s who ask for changes against the recommendation of the Chef. This is VERY unFrench, and thus very insulting to his expertise. Also, this is insulting to the expertise of the wait-staff.
