Why are my Green Beans growing soft and unevenly?

This is very common, at least to me. Mine do the same thing. It’s due to inadequate pollination of the late flowers. Once the plants are really full and bushy, the flowers are not pollinated as well, because the bugs can’t reach them as well. This is what causes the ones that are only full at the bottom. You may also get some that start to grow and then weaken, feel empty like paper, and eventually turn yellow. I attribute this to the plant just running out of steam. Beans are annuals, and don’t have long lives. Also, if you allow ANY beans to mature on the plant, that plant will stop producing, since it has done its duty of making seeds. I just live with this and count on one good pod set. After that, I pull the plants. Then the bed is open for some other crop.
