Why are narcissists more likely to be involved in white-collar crime?
What you are doing with narcissism is trying to make yourself look good and be powerful, and be seen that way by others. But you don’t really care about people. If you’re only looking out for yourself, one way to relate to the world is to take advantage of people, to swindle people. You don’t have moral, warm feelings toward others. If you’re not constrained by caring for other people, then you take advantage of, steal from or swindle people. If you are very narcissistic, it is a reasonable thing to do. Morality buffers normal people from doing bad things. If you don’t have that buffer, you can do bad things. Not everybody who is narcissistic is a criminal by any means. But a higher proportion of criminals are narcissists. Is there a way to work on oneself to combat the influences of a narcissistic culture?
