Why ARE some people so vehemently against same-sex marriage?

No matter what anyone says, it is almost ALWAYS because of religion. Religion can be a source of great bigotry at times. Take the movie Milk for example. All of the people that hated the gays said there is god’s divine law in this country. Even though now we have the separation of church and state that does not change people’s views on things. They will still fight for things that the bible says. Not too long ago, I asked a question on Religion and Spirituality section and asked what they thought of same sex marriage and asked them their religion. EVERY single one who said that it was bad was religious, but there was also religious people who said they thought it was fine. But to further that, about half of the answers were form atheists, and EVERY single one of the atheists said that gay marriage was fine by them and should be legal. If that doesn’t explain it enough, I don’t know what does. No offense to religion of course, just stating the facts.
