Why are swift foxes endangered?
There are a few reasons for the decline of swift foxes, but the most significant is probably poisoning. Ranchers used to leave poison out for coyotes they believed were killing their domestic animals, and often poisoned swift foxes in the process. The fur trade (hunting swift foxes for their fur) and habitat loss (turning prairie into farmland) were also important factors. In 1938, swift foxes were declared extinct in Canada.
