Why Are There N Pure Free Market Economies In The World?
A totally free market economy cannot exist is a world dominated by economies that are controlled. That’s the easy, rulebook answer. Living in the real world, the simplist answer is that we have things called governments, which reflect the interests of the governed (republics, democracies), or the governing (communist, socialist, totalitarian). To pursue the perceived greater good of the populous, a government will enact restrictions to trade. Most commonly these have to do with protection of a competitive advantage in production or manufacture, but they can also be out of mis-enlightened self interest, Examples of the latter would include military stockpiling (the USA maintains a strategic stockpiles of hemp and helium, among other things), or a desire for complete self sufficiency (e.g. Japan’s insistence on banning all imports of rice). Consult John Stuart Mill (or better, the P.J. O’Rourke abridged version) for more complete details on Lassaiz Faire economics.
