Why are we consolidating the behavioral health benefit previously administered by OptumHealth/UBH?
• Beginning in 2010, we are required by federal law to provide similar benefits for behavioral and mental health coverage as we do for other medical coverage. Therefore, we are changing the benefits structure to comply, and each plan will now have a single deductible/coinsurance/co-pay structure that applies regardless of whether the services were for behavioral health or other medical services. For easier administration and better accuracy of claims payment, it is important that we use a single vendor for all types of claims going forward. Aetna, as our medical vendor, will assume responsibility for behavioral health benefits effective 1/1/10, and OptumHealth/UBH will no longer be used for these benefits. • Although Aetna’s network of behavioral health provider is extensive, it is not a 100% match with OptumHealth/UBH’s network. Aetna is actively working to recruit any additional behavioral health providers that our faculty and staff have used in the past into their network.
