Why are we growing corn for ethanol when people are starving?

0

Growing corn for ethanol isn’t really related to people starving. Actually, since the “ethanol boom,” there has been more corn planted in the US than what is used for making ethanol. In reality, America has a tremendous amount of fertile land that could be used to grow even more food, but subsidies keep it out of production… not that it would help the situation at all. Most people are starving due to short-term changes in climate (drought/flood), political instability, or poverty… not because the US isn’t producing enough food.
