Why aren partial products shown in the solutions to multiple-digit multiplication problems?

We intentionally give the answer only, without showing partial products. That way, when the student gets an answer wrong he must look over his entire solution to find the mistake. This is good practice. We have the same philosophy in division–we intentionally give the answer only, and don’t show the work.
