Why art photography?

So what does art photography have to offer? Your interest might be in advertising, journalism, or, if not commercially interested at all, in family and travel pictures. Art is frequently viewed as somewhere off in the stratosphere and irrelevant to everyday life. As one would expect, I strongly disagree with this misguided perspective. Im appalled at the fact that for some time the arts have been barely taught as a subject in schools – a dangerous experiment considering that art has always been and still is one of the basic identifiers of being human. Not teaching our children about arts and crafts either in our schools or at home may be changing human culture in ways that are decidedly not helpful. From a less esoteric and more practical viewpoint for your photography, if you dont understand the principles of art, you may not achieve the quality you would like in your pictures.
