See, though sea water is being converted into fresh water but there are some reasons, why sea water is not being desalinatd. 1. The presence of salt in sea water is too much, which makes the process complicated. 2. Some poverty stricken countries rely on fresh water sources like rivers, as they can not afford for the desalination of water. 3. Usually countries rely on sea water for pisciculture, oil tanking, salt extraction, etc… Maybe some day with the advancement of technology this process would be made more accessible. That’s all.

Of the more than 7,500 desalination plants worldwide, 60% are located in the Middle East. The world’s largest plant, which is in Saudi Arabia, produces 128 MGD of desalted water.
