Why codes of conduct for business partners?
The motivation for utilising supplier codes of conduct is multifold. Clearly, a corporation that desires to uphold a specific level of social standards would not want their name tainted by raucous behaviour on the part of their associates. Kathie Lee Gifford is a memorable example of an image that was adversely impacted by the actions of supply chain members. More recently, campaigns have been launched by activist and non-profit groups to hold Cadburys, Nestl, and Hershey accountable for the use of child labour in cocoa fields of the Ivory Coast. The goal, therefore, of such a code of conduct is to motivate ones business partners to commit to uphold the same or a similar standard as oneself.
