Why did Spirit relocate to Jacksonville State University in Alabama?

After the Summer of 2000, the Board of Directors were presented with a couple of options…we could fold the corps or listen to Ken Bodiford’s (the music director at JSU) radical new idea for a corps from the university. Our support from the metro Atlanta area had never materialized, other than drawing many members from that area. Making the move was a bold step to further the future of Spirit. Spirit calls JSU home and uses its facilities for rehearsals and camps. The corps also has use of vehicles and equipment that is owned by the JSU music department. Spirit is still operated by an independent non profit organization…the Friends of Spirit. The SOAAA and the FFF are two other organizations that contribute to the financial support of the drum corps.
