Treasury received competitive applications from over a dozen banks in response to the request for nationwide debit card services and was pleased with the excellent qualifications of the applicants. Comerica Bank was selected, in part, because of its experience as a prepaid debit card issuer for millions of benefit recipients, particularly for state government programs. Comerica Bank and its partner, ACS State and Local Government, Inc., have been serving state and local governments since 2003.
