Why did the US have to fight a Cold War against the Soviet Union?
The reason why there was a cold war was because of TRUMAN. Not REAGAN. After WWII, Russia decided that it wanted eastern europe for itself – creating an “iron curtain” as Churchhill called it – that did not have free elections and promoted communism. The McCarthy Era found Communism “terrible/disgusting” Once Russia set its sights on Korea, Truman stepped in, probably unnecessarily. Truman, unlike Roosevelt, did not even want to try out isolationism before getting himself into a war. Since then Presidents have followed Truman’s leadership right into unnecessary wars such as Vietnam and Iraq. What you also must realize is that Russia, under the USSR, was not happy. Famine was abound, their currency was in the pits, their economy ruined by past leaders. Each one state fought for independence from the USSR. Today Russia is still mostly intact but those who separated remain independent. Some have declared independence twice. The Iraq War shouldn’t have happened. The people who took out the
