After WWII, Russia decided that it wanted eastern europe for itself – creating an “iron curtain” as Churchhill called it – that did not have free elections and promoted communism. Truman, unlike Roosevelt, did not even want to try out isolationism before getting himself into a war. Since then Presidents have followed Truman’s leadership right into unnecessary wars such as Vietnam and Iraq. What you also must realize is that Russia, under the USSR, was not happy.
