Why do a lot of Cowboys wear big belt buckles?
This is for personal reasons. Cowboy Belt Buckles were invented as a prize for, Ride for the Brand, competitions that used to take place with local Ranchers to compete against each other. Their Brand was placed on the Belt Buckles and it became a status. So bigger meant better, now-a-days it is more of a pride thing that they wear belt buckles and show that, yes I am a Cowboy. • What is the purpose of Spurs? A: Spurs where designed to help control a horse. When riding especially on uneven or unfamiliar terrain it can give the horse the little extra boost that he or she may need to go up a hill or down a draw. • Do Cowboys put Beef Jerky under their Saddle? A: I have personally heard of this several times. When I asked why they do that, they explain that it warms up the Jerky and keeps it moist so it doesnt dry out.
