Why do chestnut mares have such a bad reputation?

0

A red-headed woman, that’s why. Redheads have the reputation of being free-spirited and fiesty. Mares are mares. I’ve met plenty of good chestnut mares. That being said, we currently have 3 chestnut mares in our barn that were deemed “unworkable” by previous owners. They’re some of the best horses we have. You just have to figure out how to get along with them, not tell them what to do (as you do with ANY mare). However, when shopping for horses we do not recommend chestnut mares to our clients simply because they are so hard to sell if it doen’t work out due to their bad rep.
