Why do humans grow faster during puberty, and not in a constant rate from birth to adulthood?
Firstly, the growth rate of humans during puberty is as much as their growth in infantry. Secondly, the explanation for the fast growing in both periods is alike: in infantry the human creature has to gain enough “mass” to “learn the world” around him or her, and in puberty the human creature has to gain enough mass to conceive and to hold the infant he or she is about to have (the fact that nowadays most people in the West have children only 7-17 years after puberty has to do with sociological developments).
