Why do I get a “The page cannot be displayed” error when I attempt to go to Gophermail using Internet Explorer?
The page cannot be displayed error will appear for Internet Explorer (I.E.) users who enter “gophermail.umn.edu” in the address bar without the “http://” or “www.” I.E. is attempting to use the “gopher” protocol, instead of http. To prevent this error from appearing, enter “http://gophermail.umn.edu” or “www.gophermail.umn.edu” in I.E.’s address bar. Any other Web browser will immediately navigate to GopherMail when the “http://” is omitted from the URL (Web site’s address).
This error appears for Internet Explorer users who enter “gophermail.umn.edu” in the address bar without including “https://” or “www” before the address. Internet Explorer attempts to use the “gopher” protocol, instead of http. To prevent this error, enter “https://gophermail.umn.edu” or “www.gophermail.umn.edu” in the address bar. This problem does not affect browsers other than Internet Explorer. Why do I get the following error message? “Error Code: 502 Proxy Error. The specified Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) port is not allowed. ISA Server is not configured to allow SSL requests from this port. Most Web browsers use port 443 for SSL requests.” This message indicates that your computer’s network settings are blocking the SSL protocol on the port that Gophermail 2.0 currently uses. In other words, your network settings are blocking your access to Gophermail 2.0. To fix this, your network administrator must add an exception for Gophermail 2.0. In the future, we will switch Gophermail 2.
