Why Do People Avoid STD Testing?
There are people who simply don’t know that they can be exposed to an STD and not have any obvious symptoms. These people are not irresponsible, they are just not well-informed. Other times, people either consciously or subconsciously convince themselves that because they do not have obvious symptoms there is no need to be tested. There are also those people who suspect that they might have been exposed to an STD, but are not ready to accept that fact, so they delay being tested. Some people do not have health insurance and cannot afford testing by a private practice or independent testing facility. This is not a reason to delay testing- most county health departments perform free or inexpensive STD testing. To be tested for STD’s demonstrates accountability, courage, honesty, honor and responsibility.
