Why do Sadlerstone tiles show tonal variation?
• Sadlerstone displays shading or tonal variation that is caused by natural variations inherent in the raw materials employed. We promote this as a very desirable feature of the product. When viewing an actual installation, tonal variations appear diminished and the shifts in tone produce an overall warm and pleasing effect. • When freshly cleaned and buffed a Sadler installation will show a higher degree of tonal variation than one that is older. As the tile is not glazed with an impervious surface, over time, use and the process of cleaning and occasional buffing will bring the tone of the tiles closer together. By being treated in the same way over time, initial tonal variations will fade and an overall patina will develop.
