I think you are thinking about White Sharks… they have always had problems with keeping them in captivity. Most other species of sharks do just fine, even Whale Sharks do very well. As far as why White Sharks do not do well they are still trying to figure that one out. The Monterey Bay Aquarium traps wild ones and keeps they for a short period of time and releases them as soon as possible (they trap because science is trying to learn more about the species and all are released before they get sick). There are also other research facilities and aquariums that will keep them for short periods of time, but the Monterer Bay Aquarium is one of the more well known that does it often. Nonetheless, the reason why they do not do well it still a mystery. Also to the person who said they have to keep swimming to breathe… that is not true, there are many species of sharks that can stop swimming and rest on rocks or the bottom of the sea/ocean/reef.
