Why does an atheist have more respect for life than someone religious?
of all the people I know both religious and non religious I think they both respect life to about the same degree with atheists having slightly less respect for life in general but only by a small margin. I say that only because I have worked at correctional facilities and the vast majority of the truly violent criminals I met were atheist and had little or no respect for thier own lives and particularly the lives of others but I think common everyday people for the most part religious or not have a similar respect for life.
What makes you think that atheists have more respect for life than religious people? You can look at history and cite atrocities committed by allegedly religious people in the name of religion. However, you can also find atrocities that we committed by avowed atheists. Personally, I would argue that, on the whole, religious people have more respect for life, than atheists do, this is especially true of innocent life. My reason for stating this is the issue of abortion. If you look at those that are against abortion, those that defend the right of the unborn child to live, then you find that the majority of them are religious. On the other hand, it has been my experience that most atheists tend to come down on the side that the developing fetus is just a lump of flesh. Conversely, it is the atheists that most often defend the most heinous murders from the death penalty.
