Why does Midol contain caffeine?
Thirty five years ago, caffeine was a common ingredient in many pain killers because it makes the painkiller more effective. Acetiminiphen with caffeine kills a headache in record time. Then Congress passed a law against putting two ingredients into a medication if they could be taken separately, because they said it led to higher consumer spending as they had to by a separate package of medicine for different purposes (think the marketing campaign a few years ago where one of the companies, it might have been Tylenol, was selling Tylenol for back pain and Tylenol for headache pain, and Tylenol for menstrual pain, etc).
