Why does my raster display as one color (and my legend labels change) after clicking OK on the Histogram dialog in the Stretched renderer?

Discrepancies between the range of possible cell values that the raster can hold (in other words, the raster’s data depth) and the actual range of values in the raster cause this. The histogram tool sometimes incorrectly uses the minimum and maximum data depth of the raster in the stretch, rather than the raster’s range of cell values. By clicking OK in the Histogram dialog, the values are set into a different and often much larger context, resulting in a very narrow range of the color ramp being used. As a workaround, use the provided pre-formed stretches that allow your raster to be displayed in varying ways (i.e. standard deviations, histogram equalize, and minimum-maximum).
