Why does naproxen sodium have sedative effects?

0

Naproxen sodium (Advil) doesn’t have that effect on me. I take it quite often, since I’m a runner. The active ingredient is ibuprofin (Motrin), which doesn’t make you sleepy, and the inert ingredients don’t make you sleepy. Not “you” personally, but sleepiness isn’t a side effect. Talk to your pharmacist. She will be able to tell you if there is a side reaction somewhere. I just thought about this: because it is a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory pill, it probably thins the blood slightly, which will reduce the oxygen to your brain. That will make you yawn and make you sleepy.

Naproxen is Aleve, not Advil. It is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory, nonopioid analgesic.
