Why does Paramus need a new library?
The use of the current building has grown dramatically in the past few years. It is the third busiest library in Bergen County. In 2000, attendance at programs was 12,000; in 2006 that number grew to more than 28,000. The circulation of books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines has increased from 312,000 in 2000 to 442,000 in 2006. Technology has added computers, DVDs, CD-ROMs and talking books to the library as well as several new book collections. Book shelves and storage space have gone beyond capacity and there is little room for community gatherings and special programs such as story time, book discussions, and educational workshops and classes. back to list…
