It may be affecting the soluability of the soap in water, but the soap won’t smell very nice (ot taste nice if you get it in your mouth) DANGER The advice on dissolving caustic soda in water is far too lax. This is an extremely dangerous thing to do as a lot of heat will be generated and any splashes etc will give a serious chemical burn. Wear full skin and eye protection made from rubber/plastic to keep it away from skin and eyes. Adding meths to this hot caustic mix could well cause a lot of flammable vapour to be released as well.
