Why does the certified court interpreter examination process consist of both written and oral components?
The written and oral examinations evaluate different competencies. The written test, which is given first, ensures that a candidate meets the minimal level of fluency in both English and the target language. However, passing the written test does not demonstrate a candidate’s ability to interpret effectively. The oral examination is needed to test the candidate’s interpreting skills and abilities.
