Why does the cost of college keep going up?
The Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education governs the state s four community colleges, the state college, two universities and one environmental research institute. Unlike private universities and colleges which must charge the full cost of education to a student, public colleges receive support from the state to pay over 77 percent of the cost. Since students are expected to pay a portion of the cost of attending college, as state support goes up to keep pace with necessary increases in general inflation and the cost of providing education to a growing student body, the students portion must also rise.
