Why does the Islamic Republic of Iran have 7 times more sex-change operations than in Europe?
I am really skeptical about that statistic… The best I could find in a short search was “The number of gender reassignment procedures conducted in the United States each year is estimated at between 100 and 500. The number worldwide is estimated to be two to five times larger”. This means that 20-50% of all sex change operations occur in the US; supposing that Europe, with a population of the same magnitude (3-500million, depending on definitions of “Europe”), has similar rates, it is not mathematically possible for Iran to have seven times as many. Bottom line, I really, really don’t think that number could be right.
