Why does the Library impose so many usage guidelines on its visitors?
The Clendening Library, like most rare book libraries, takes seriously its role as cultural custodian. We try to carefully balance the need for access to current users with the similar needs of future generations. Accordingly, the Library conforms, wherever possible, to the Guidelines for the Security of Rare Books, Manuscripts, and Other Special Collections developed by the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the American Library Association.
