Vastu Shastra pays a lot of importance to the tulsi or basil plant as it is the only plant that absorbs carbon dioxide and gives out oxygen. Also, the coconut, mango, ashok, chameli, jackfruit and neem trees should be planted as they have medicinal value. Scientific tests have proved that the neem and tulsi are insect resistant while the ashok tree helps to control noise pollution. All the trees recommended radiate positive energy. However, trees that ooze milk and thorny bushes emit negative radiation. These are directly related to effective ions and the resultant energies. Tall trees are recommended in the south-west, west and south directions and smaller trees and plants recommended in the north-west, north and east. Only potted plants should be placed in the north-east so as not to obstruct the infra-red rays.
