This is only an instantaneous measure of the book’s popularity and the ranking by this measure corresponds to the Most Bookshelves Chart (select Weekly Book Chart and filter by ‘most shelves chart’). The number of bookshelves doesn’t necessarily relate to how popular the book has been over a different or longer-time period, since people who recommended the book at one time may have removed it from their bookshelves in favour of another title. The Editor’s Desk chart is a measure of a book’s all-time popularity, every single shelf the book has ever been on counts towards the ranking. In addition, since the book charts are based on recommendations made during a rolling time period (e.g. the last 7 days or 30 days) if a book was placed on a bookshelf a long time ago, it will not influence the ranking of a chart measured over a shorter time period.
