Why doesn someone start a religion worshipping Bill & Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett?
For the same reason people do not worship Mohammed, or Gandhi, or even Martha Stewart. They are not God. It has been suggested in some places (can’t remember if it was in H.G. Wells’s “The Outline of History” or not) that a new religion for the Industrial Age is needed, as the entire Judaeo-Christian-Islamic system is based on the beliefs of nomadic tribesmen. Do you really want to go back to the beliefs of the ancient Greeks and Romans, who deified heroes and rulers, and maintained temples to their cults? (Though I suppose the Ronald Reagan Heritage Project would qualify.) Good God, people singing the praises of George W. Bush are bad enough – imagine people worshiping him!! It is no different when one worships philanthropists. Forget that nonsense and either contribute to their work or do your own bit to help other people. And (assuming you are a believer) worship the real God.
