HR 4408: National Language Act (Peter King of NY) S. 3828: Senate Version (James Inhofe of OK) National Language Act of 2005 – Declares that English is the official language of the United States, and that the government shall conduct its official business in English, including publications, income-tax forms, and informational material. Unless specifically stated in law, no person has a right, entitlement or claim to have any agent or representative of the United States government communicate or provide services in any language other than English.

Some cities, particularly those in the Southwest, commonly do use bilingual signs. However, publicly-owned places (i.e. Airports, Freeways) generally remain English-only, but stores, etc. are often bilingual in the Southwestern United States.

The US has no official language. The signs should reflect the population of the immediate area. There are Vietnamese signs in parts of Texas.

Using the website below you can see that only a few counties in the USA have over a million Spanish speaking citizens and most of those are on or close to the border of Mexico or at the very tip of Florida. So it wouldn’t make sense to have multilingual signs in places where the majority wouldn’t need them. http://www.mla.org/map_single I would recommend making suggestions wherever you think the dual signage would benefit the local citizens. But I don’t see the whole nation going Bi-Lingual since 90% of the rest of the US speaks English or something else. Good luck.
