Your question is built to a degree on a false premise. Scandinavian countries may be MORE atheist than many other countries, but 90%? That’s not even close. Find me one reputable survey that reports this. The closest I could come was one saying the 23% of Swedish citizens “do not believe that there is any sort of god, spirit, or life force”. That small a minority isn’t likely to be able to perform any kind of political action by itself. No… if you’re looking for a reason why those countries are the way they are, you are going to have to include theists into the equation. And it’s not even difficult to do. In America, many theists believe that the country was founded on religious principles and thus that there is no separation between church and state. The first amendment suggests otherwise, of course, but you’ll still find a monotheistic god everywhere from the currency to the mandatory loyalty oath children recite in school.
