Why is a device in the STM map labelled “unknown” or its icon blank?

0

The causes for an “unknown” device can be one of the following: • The device was turned off or removed from the system but a reboot has not yet been performed. In this case, the scan hw log indicates that there is no hardware associated with the hardware path. The path will be removed from the map after a system reboot. • The driver associated with the device is not recognized by STM. In this case, the scan hw log indicates that it could not find an identify routine to run to for the indicated driver. Device->Current Device Status STM command. • The output of the “ioscan -kF” hp-ux command. • The type of device and its product number (if known). –> • The device file for the device was not been created by the system at boot time. In this case, the scan hw log contains messages indicating which device file is missing. Typically, the user can issue the “insf -e” command and then rescan the hardware within STM and the problem will clear up.
