Why is Aberystwyth University awarding its own degrees?
Aberystwyth University (AU), along with all of the other universities within the University of Wales (UW), is an independent institution responsible for its finances, education and research. AU is proud to be able to award degrees in its own name from 2010. This cements the strong bond which already exists between AU and its students and reflects the high esteem on which AU is held both within the UK and across the world. Indeed, many Aberystwyth students are surprised to learn, upon graduating, that they receive a University of Wales degree instead of one from Aberystwyth. However, the last few years have seen some significant changes in UW and in its relationship with university institutions in Wales. Aberystwyth University, in common with several other Welsh universities has therefore decided that the time is right to award our own degrees to our students.
