Why is anhydrous borax better than 20 Mule Team Borax or other ordinary borax?
First, while 20 Mule is 99.5 pure borax, the water in standard (10 MOL) borax works against the removing of oxide layers until the water is burned off. Other cleaners may have much less and add things that don’t belong there. How much water is there in standard store borax? 47% that’s right , you lose about 1/2 of what you had to start !! That explains the blistering and slag you can get…you are cooling your part! Second, mixing hydrated borax to molten metal (like gold) in refining can violently remove the water as steam and possibly some captured metal can be thrown off. If you are using this for gold refining, anhydrous (by me or anyone else) should be your choice. Third, this offered borax has been calcined, crushed and screened for uniform dispersion.
